Ingredients in DrFormulas® Mood Boost Probiotics

Designed to improve mood and relieve stress, DrFormulas® Mood Boost Probiotics supplement features a unique combination of vitamins and minerals, herbs, and probiotics. This combination of all-natural ingredients helps support gut health and a healthy, well-balanced mood.

Ashwagandha Root

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a staple herb used in traditional Ayurvedic healing to support immunity.1 In more modern medicine, ashwagandha has been studied for its potential adaptogenic (anti-stress) activities as well as its potential to reduce stress. A large meta-study found evidence suggesting that ashwagandha has anti-stress effects in both rodent and human models, which increases the body’s tolerance to stress.2

GABA

Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a naturally occurring amino acid that acts as an important neurotransmitter. When GABA attaches to receptors, it produces a natural calming effect, which can help to reduce feelings of stress, fear, and stress. Small studies also suggest that GABA may be effective in inducing sleep for those with insomnia.3

B Vitamins

The B vitamin complex comprises a group of eight known water-soluble vitamins that play a diverse role in cellular metabolism, breaking down amino acids, and transporting energy throughout the body.

While the exact mechanisms still require further study, research has found that B vitamin supplements may reduce stress and improve the well-being of those suffering from occupational stress and burnout.4

    Chamomile Flower

Chamomile has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries to help against gastrointestinal disorders and problems sleeping Dried chamomile flowers contain a variety of complex flavonoids and terpenoids that may infer medicinal properties. As an herbal tea, chamomile has been found to have anti-stress effects.5 Studies on the long-term use of chamomile extracts over a 38-week period was found to significantly reduce symptoms of stress with no noticeable side effects.6

    Gryffonia simplicifolia

Gryffonia simplicifolia is a shrub that is the main source for the amino acid 5-HTP. This naturally occurring amino acid is a precursor for the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is involved in mood and providing feelings of happiness and well-being. This suggests that 5-HTP may help support mood.7

    St. John’s Wort

St. John’s wort is an herbal remedy that is commonly recommended for poor mood, but it may also help to reduce stress. Experts believe that St. John’s wort works by allowing for more efficient use of neurotransmitters involved with mood. A meta-analysis found that St. John’s wort may be helpful as some prescription drugs for supporting mood.8

    Probiotics

This supplement also includes a probiotic blend of Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus caseii, and Bifidobacterium longum. Incorporating probiotics supports your gut health, which may play an important role in your overall health. In terms of your mood, studies suggest that the gut and the brain may be intrinsically linked via the gut-brain axis. Supporting a healthy gut may help to support a balanced mood, and vice versa.9
