This careful formulation of all-natural ingredients may help to maintain your gut health and support a healthy, well-balanced mood.

Ingredients in DrFormulas® Mood Boost Probiotics

Our Mood Booster Complex features a mix of natural ingredients that have been carefully formulated and tested for their individual and complementary effects. Some of these ingredients include:

Ashwagandha Root

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a staple herb used in traditional Ayurvedic healing, in which it has a variety of different uses, from improving sexual and reproductive function to supporting cell-mediated immunities.1 In more modern medicine, ashwagandha has been studied for its potential adaptogenic (anti-stress) activities as well as its potential to reduce anxiety. A large meta-study found evidence suggesting that ashwagandha may present anti-anxiety effects in both rodent and human models, stabilizing the body’s tolerance and response to stress.2

Gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a naturally occurring amino acid that acts as an important neurotransmitter. When GABA attaches to receptors, it produces a natural calming effect, which can help to reduce feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety. Small studies also suggest that GABA may be effective in inducing sleep for those with insomnia.3

B Vitamins

The B vitamin complex comprises a group of eight known water-soluble vitamins that play a diverse role in cellular metabolism, breaking down amino acids, and transporting energy throughout the body. The B vitamins found in this supplement include:

  • Thiamine (vitamin B1)
  • Riboflavin (vitamin B2)
  • Niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3)
  • Pyridoxine (vitamin B6)
  • Folic acid (vitamin B9)
  • Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12)

While the exact mechanisms still require further study, research has found that B vitamin supplements may reduce anxiety and improve the well-being of those suffering from occupational stress and burnout.4

Chamomile Flower

Chamomile has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries to help against gastrointestinal disorders, insomnia, rheumatic pain, and more. Dried chamomile flowers contain a variety of complex flavonoids and terpenoids that may infer medicinal properties. As an herbal tea, chamomile has been studied for its potential to reduce stress and anxiety, with some studies suggesting that the flower may present mild anxiolytic effects.5 Studies on the long-term use of chamomile extracts over a 38-week period was found to significantly reduce symptoms of moderate to severe generalized anxiety disorder with no noticeable side effects.6

Gryffonia simplicifolia

Gryffonia simplicifolia is a shrub that is the main source for the amino acid 5-HTP. This naturally occurring amino acid is a precursor for the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is involved in mood and providing feelings of happiness and well-being. This suggests that 5-HTP may help to reduce feelings of depression, which is often noted by a deficiency in serotonin.7

St. John’s Wort

St. John’s wort is an herbal remedy that is commonly recommended for symptoms of depression, but it may also help to reduce anxiety and stress. Experts believe that St. John’s wort works by allowing for more efficient use of GABA, serotonin, dopamine, and other neurotransmitters involved with mood regulation. A meta-analysis found that St. John’s wort may be as effective as SSRIs in treating mild to moderate depression.8

This supplement also includes a probiotic blend of Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus caseii, and Bifidobacterium longum. Incorporating probiotics supports your gut health, which may play an important role in your overall health. In terms of your mood, studies suggest that the gut and the brain may be intrinsically linked via the gut-brain axis. Supporting a healthy gut may help to support a balanced mood, and vice versa.9

Works great, very calming

Noticeable difference in our daughter's behavior ❤️

Our 8 year old daughter tends to have some moody moments, as children do. However, she may have inherited some mood instability from us. Supplements help us, so we figured we'd try some with our daughter. This, along with Omega 3 fish oil, has had a dramatic difference increasing her happiness and coping with things that previously would cause her anxiety and distress.
I only wish the pills were smaller or chewable. We empty them into a small bowl and mix with peanut butter, honey, or jam and give them to her in a spoon. Takes this morning and night.
